2 Websites Not To Bother With Advertising On
When you are starting a new website, you’re always thinking of ways to promote your new site, and you come up with big marketing plans that you intend on keeping to, to try and get as many people to your website when it launches.
I want to tell you 2 websites not to bother with for a number of reasons.
- MySpace
MySpace is slowly but surely filling up with spam these days and a lot of people are starting to jump ship over to sites like Facebook, which incidentaly is actually a far better website but thats another story.
I see it so many time on sites like Digital Point where people are selling ‘Bulletins’ to 5000, 10000, 15000 ‘friends’ on MySpace for a few dollars and I can’t help but think that this is the biggest waste of time and money out there. You pay for a bulletin to be sent out to these people, most of which probably don’t even use MySpace anymore, and then you hope that those who still use MySpace that they read your sp….., sorry I mean bulletin. I see this kind of advertising, exactly the same as spam that gets redirected to your spam folder in your email program. 2 Words…… Don’t Bother.
- Wikipedia
Personally, Wikipedia is one of my favorite and most used websites I use today, and I found out pretty quick that its pointless to try and get your websites link on Wikipedia. Firstly, all links on Wikipedia are ‘NOFOLLOW’ links, meaning they don’t contribute at all to your search engine rankings and pagerank.
The next thing i’ve found is that all the part time editors are really on the ball when it comes to spam, which is a really good thing as it would be a shame for this brilliant website to be ruined.
I once tried to create a new page on wikipedia for my website, which in my eyes at the time was fine, because I saw pages like this one which was basically all about adbrite.com, so I tried to create a page exactly like that one, but within a few minutes of submitting my page it was deleted and marked as spam. So unless you have a multi million dollar business then theres no point trying to create a page on wikipedia.
