Getting Traffic From Social Networking Sites

If you can crack this one, you will get a massive amount of traffic, thats the first thing I will say. The biggest sites include, digg.com, delicious, reddit.com, and more recently stumbleupon.com

Social Networking is the latest craze, where users can share links and help promote each others stories which will in time mean those stories get more exposure on whatever social networking site they are on. For example on digg.com, a user will submit a link to an article or a news story or a video, and then other people will ‘digg’ his link if they like it. It the link gets enough ‘diggs’ then eventually his link will get to the homepage of the digg.com website and this is when the most amount of people will see that link and then click on it.

It sounds pretty straight forward, but getting people to ‘digg’ your stories is the hardest part. If you have a huge network of online friends then you can get them all to add you as a friend on these sites and then they will all be able to easily see your stories that you have submitted and then hopefully they will ‘digg’ them.

If you have a blog you can have a ‘digg’ button like you can see on this blog, and then people who read your stuff can easily digg it and help get your stories more exposure on these site.

The sort of traffic you will receive can be quite untargeted, meaning you might have a website that sells shoes, and the sort of people that visit your site could be tech geeks who really have no interest in buying the shoes you sell, but you will get a lot of brand exposure.

The most important thing you have the bare in mind though, is if you get a story to the homepage of digg.com, you have to be sure your website can handle the sort of traffic that will be coming your way, as it would be such a waste to get to the homepage of digg.com but then for your website to buckle under the pressure and for you to miss out on all these potential visitors.
